Use Local Services to Burn VHS Tapes onto DVDs

by Joe Redford

We keep a lot of our precious memories on Video Home System tapes. This is because VHS tapes were all there was when we were younger. Nowadays however, with the boom of technology, several other ways of keeping our memories stored away and alive have been developed. One of these is known as the Digital Video Disc, or the DVD.

There are quite a lot of methods of transferring home movie tapes to DVDs. Many can be done in the safety of your own home, provided that you are relatively good with computers and own a hardware capturing device. Many people choose this manner of converting tapes to discs for it gives them the liberty of editing their videos as they wish. They can cut, crop and edit their tapes to their whims.

Not all of us are whizzes at computer editing programs, however. For these people, don't worry. There are always local and online services we can seek help from. We can use online services in ordering hardware capturing devices or paying someone for online tutorials on video conversions. We can even mail our home video tapes to people who have posted about their video services on the internet. This works well for most people. I however, prefer to use local services. Read on to find out why.

It is much easier to use local services than online ones. First of all, there will be no need for you to fear that your precious tapes will get lost in the mail, never to be found. Second, local services allow you to talk to the person editing your videos face to face. Online services however, confine you to using a phone or Skype as your main means of communication. Through local services, you get to know who is fixing your videos and know they are safe in their hands.

Using a local hand to convert your tapes also gives you more opportunities to learn. You can watch as a professional edits your videos and ask him/her as many questions as you can think of. This might even be enough for you to learn how to convert your videos by yourself, for next time. Online tutorials help a lot, I admit. But say you have questions and need your tutor to go online before being able to ask them? Also, a lot of online services price you by the hour, so asking questions may become pretty expensive.

Burning your VHS tapes to DVDs is one of the best ways of keeping your memories alive. Allow future generations to relieve your memories with you by converting your videos. Don't let your tapes gather dust in the closet until such a time that they become un-'playable'. Transfer your videos onto discs and keep your precious memories alive forever.
