Logo Design Considerations

A company logo is a critical element of branding. Its design will communicate a number of things to your stakeholders and clients. Whether it will be on promotional conference bags, your office door, or calling cards, the colors, fonts, and the lines will communicate subtle messages about your company to your customers. Make sure that you choose a logo design that fits your branding goals that can easily be associated to your company name. The following are logo design considerations that you can consider.

When you are choosing typography for your logo, make sure that you choose one that has good spacing. Avoid using fonts that have too much or too little space between them. When applied to different products like promotional shirts, your logo can easily be distorted. It is critical that your logo will be designed for all kinds of uses and media, whether it will be for print, the internet, or on a street sign. As much as possible, choose one that has a balanced spacing and look.

An important feature of branding is being unique. To accomplish this with your logo, you must make an effort to avoid the usual types of fonts. Avoid using the typical or default fonts like Times New Roman and the like that people instantly recognize. While they are classic fonts, they will only make your company seem generic or, even worse, boring. Being unimaginative is the last thing you will want to communicate to your customers. On the other hand, depending on what kind of company you have, avoid using fonts that are too 'crazy.' Unless you are trying to communicate things like being unconventional or different, these kinds of fonts will only make your company look unprofessional to your stakeholders.

If you want to be able to communicate something good about your company, choose designs that are legible, clean, and simple. Make sure that you choose logos that are not too thin. While lightweight logos can look good on a computer screen, they might be too difficult to see when they are printed on promotional t shirts, banners, and billboards.

Moreover, while you need to make sure that your logo is unique, you need to avoid using a logo that is difficult to understand. It should be able to communicate what your company is about clearly. Whether it is on promotional t shirts or notebooks, the message about who your company is should be clear and concise. Abstract logos may look good, but you need to make sure that it fits the branding of your company.
